Surgeon’s new leadership role underscores Saint Anne’s Hospital’s growth in orthopedic care

Fall River, MA – Saint Anne’s Hospital has announced the appointment of Fall River, MA, orthopedic surgeon Jerald W. Katz, MD, as chief of orthopedics.

As an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Katz specializes in the care and treatment of the musculoskeletal system.  This includes diseases of and injuries to bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves.

A resident of Barrington, RI, Dr. Katz brings a distinguished career to his role as chief of orthopedics.  Board-certified in orthopedic surgery and certified to perform MAKOplasty® knee and hip procedures, Dr. Katz has clinical interests in general and pediatric orthopedic surgery, including surgical treatment of scoliosis and other spinal conditions.

A member of Saint Anne’s Hospital’s medical staff since 1990, Dr. Katz is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and a member of the American Medical Association and the National Association of Residents and Interns.  He has served as a clinical instructor in the Department of Orthopedics at Brown University School of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics at Tufts University School of Medicine.  He maintains his office practice with Coastal Orthopaedics in Fall River.

A graduate of New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, he completed his internship in general surgery at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA.  He served as chief resident for orthopedic surgery at Boston University School of Medicine and Boston City Hospital in Boston, as well as the Lahey Clinic in Burlington and Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Springfield, and subsequently completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at Shriners Hospital in Tampa, FL.
