Saint Anne’s Hospital Regional Cancer Center’s annual fall oncology symposium will explore blood cancers

Fall River, MA – Saint Anne’s Hospital Regional Cancer Center, of Fall River and North Dartmouth, MA, invites physicians, nurses and other medical professionals to its annual fall Oncology Symposium on Thursday, October 3, 2013, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Rachel’s Lakeside, 950 State Road (Route 6), Dartmouth.

Designed for all health care professionals, including physicians, nurses, radiation therapists, and others who care for cancer patients, this symposium’s presentations will include:

  • “Where Stem Cell Transplantation Fits in Management of Lymphoma and Leukemia Today,” with Sarah Nikiforow, MD, PhD, clinical instructor, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Stem Cell Transplantation Program, Boston. 
  • “Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Therapy in 2013 and Beyond,” with Matthew S. Davids, MD, instructor in medicine, Harvard Medical School; attending physician, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston.
  • “New Approaches to Myelodysplastic Syndromes,” with David P. Steensma, MD, associate professor of medicine, Harvard Medical School; associate physician, Division of Hematology/Oncology, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston.

As part of its commitment to professional education, Saint Anne’s Hospital Regional Cancer Center has provided for nearly two decades two annual dinner symposia featuring highly regarded cancer care experts.

The October 3 program includes a hot buffet dinner and education credits for nurses, physicians and radiation therapists. There is no charge for the dinner or symposium, but advance reservations are requested by September 27.

About Saint Anne’s Hospital Regional Cancer Center
Founded in 1976 at Saint Anne’s Hospital, a Steward Family Hospital, Saint Anne’s Hospital Regional Cancer Center provides the expertise of university cancer centers with the care and convenience of a community setting to patients in the Greater Fall River-Greater New Bedford area.

With locations in Fall River, North Dartmouth, and Newport, RI, Saint Anne’s Hospital Regional Cancer Center offers medical oncology/hematology services by experienced hematology/medical oncology specialists. Radiation oncology services are provided by physicians from Brigham and Women’s Radiation Oncology, who also hold appointments at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School.
