The Massachusetts Emergency Nurses Association has named Good Samaritan Medical Center Emergency Room Patient Care Director Laura Raymond as its “Nurse Manager of the Year.”

Raymond, of Hanover, was recognized with the honor on November 16. This award honors an emergency nurse manager who consistently demonstrates excellence in the profession of emergency nursing, leadership skills, a high level of professional behavior and has made significant contributions in the area of emergency nursing management.

“Ms. Raymond is passionate about the care she gives to the patients who enter Good Samaritan Medical Center and she has passed this passion on to her staff members. Ms Raymond was instrumental in developing a psychiatric patient care resource manual that included standing orders and documentation guidelines, which has been shared with many other emergency departments,” her nomination letter states. “She developed and implemented a new graduate orientation program for the emergency department, contributed to the trauma program, code help program and hospital wide stroke program. She is innovative in her thinking and is able to pull together commitment from other departments in developing new programs to improve patient care. She is highly regarded by all other departments’ managers and they often seek Laurie’s input in developing new initiatives throughout the hospital. Laurie is a resource person for her staff as well as the community. She works collaboratively with EMS, the Brockton School Department and Brockton Health Department to develop programs that provide continuity of emergency care throughout the city of Brockton.”

Raymond has been a nurse at Good Samaritan Medical Center for more than 30 years. She recently was instrumental in helping to bring online the medical center’s new $30 million Emergency Room which opened to the public on October 19.
