Lose Weight & Prevent Diabetes

Wednesday, May 14, 2014, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM

Individuals with pre-diabetes have blood glucose levels higher than normal, but not high enough to constitute a diagnosis of diabetes. However, individuals with pre-diabetes need to be continually screened to ensure they do not end up with diabetes.

This free 16-week program, offered by the Steward Diabetes Education Program at Saint Anne's Hospital, is designed to help people who are at risk of developing diabetes from developing the disease.

To participate in the program, you may meet either of these pre-diabetes criteria:

1. Blood work:
       - Fasting glucose = 100-125 mg/dl
       - HbA1c = 5.7-6.4%
2. Diabetes risk test:
Scoring 5 or above on the diabetes risk screen

This program will include:

  • Topics such as healthy lifestyles, such as physical activity, monitoring food intake, reducing fat and calories, and more.
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Tracking food and physical activity
  • Private weigh-ins

This series will meet for one hour weekly for 16 weeks.

There is no charge for this program, but space is limited and pre-registration is required.
