Lace up your running shoes for Nashoba Valley Medical Center’s 3rd Annual 5K Hunger Run! Join us Saturday, October 18th to benefit Loaves and Fishes food pantry. The Hunger Run 5K will begin at Nashoba Valley Medical Center at 11 a.m. and travel along a portion of the Nashua River Rail Trail and the scenic back roads of Ayer and Groton. Children are encouraged to dress in their favorite costumes and enjoy the “Harvest Half Mile Run.” Walkers are also welcome to participate. Fun activities for the whole family will be available at the finish line.
Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry provides food and temporary support services to residents of Ayer, Devens, Groton, Harvard, Littleton and Shirley. The organization also advocates for changes that will promote independence and self-reliance for its clients. In 2013, the pantry provided food for 968 families, 333 of which were new families to the pantry.
Advanced registration is strongly recommended, and can be accomplished online at active.com (search Hunger Run 5K). Registration the day of the event is from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.
Register for the Hunger Run by September 22, 2014, and receive a FREE T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded for first place male and first place female runners directly following the 5K race.
The cost to register for the 5K race is $20 in advance, $25 for same day registration, $5 for the Half Mile Run and $5 for walkers. We ask that each runner bring one, non-perishable food item to be donated to Loaves and Fishes.
Nashoba Valley Medical Center’s 5K Hunger Run has generated over $9,200 for Loaves and Fishes and brought out over 300 participants who have donated more than 700 pounds of food to the organization.
