Brain Function and Serum Biomarkers of Postpartum Depression

What is the purpose of this trial?

One goal is to determine whether a blood test based on serum proteins can be used to diagnose or predict postpartum depression. The second goal is to use magnetic resonance imaging to look at brain structure and function in new mothers in order to better understand the changes that occur in the brain after childbirth and how they relate to the development of postpartum depression.

Eligibility Note

  • Healthy women should be in the first month postpartum. Women who are experiencing depression can participate up to 6 months after delivery but onset of symptoms should be within 3 months after childbirth.
