3-D Mammography at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center

According to the American Cancer Society, it is estimated that a woman’s lifetime risk of developing breast cancer is one in eight. Mammography is the most effective method of screening for breast cancer, and early detection is the key to higher survival rates and better prognosis.

As a part of our ongoing commitment to you, St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center is proud to offer the latest in breast cancer screening – tomosynthesis, better known as 3-D mammography – the most exciting advancement in breast cancer detection in more than 30 years.

About 3-D Mammography

A 3-D mammogram consists of multiple breast images taken in just seconds to produce a 3-D image. The doctor looks through the tissue one millimeter at a time seeing detail inside the breast in a way never before possible.

3D mammography offers benefits over more conventional screening technologies and techniques. 3-D mammography:

  •  Improves breast cancer screening and detection
  • Can offer earlier detection of smaller breast cancers

Patients can receive a 3-D mammogram as part of their annual and/or regular breast health screening. Each mammogram is read by a board-certified and 3-D-imaging-trained radiologist. To make an appointment with St. Elizabeth’s for a mammogram, please call 617-789-3160.
