Our Services

SECAP provides acute substance abuse programs for individuals who are addicted to alcohol or drugs, including heroin and other opiates, and offers emergency department screening, inpatient monitoring and immediate access to medical specialists.

Inpatient Substance Abuse Treatment

Inpatient services include:

  • Medically supervised detoxification
  • Admissions 24 hours a day
  • Individual and group counseling with a focus on relapse prevention
  • Daily Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous groups
  • Intensive case management
  • Discharge and aftercare planning
  • Spiritual counseling with clergy
  • Family meetings

Our inpatient unit is part of the Division of Addiction Services of the Department of Medicine at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center.

Inpatient detoxification is an individually monitored process usually taking between one and four days. SECAP's nurses are on the unit 24 hours a day and our doctors use evidence-based symptom-triggered protocols for medication (usually benzodiazipines and buprenorphine/naltrexone). Our counselors engage patients in group therapies, meditation, and individual counseling and discharge planning. Mutual help groups provide on-site support to aid in the transition to outpatient care.

Outpatient Psycho-Social Support

SECAP's Outpatient Unit, licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, offers outpatient services geared specifically for young adults, older adults and women, and tailor programs at various levels of intensity to meet individual needs.

  • Services for Families. SECAP staff are committed to assisting family members in a variety of ways, including guiding them to SECAP services or to group meetings in the community such as Al-Anon and Alateen.
