Steward Health Care Network (SHCN) maintains a physician led governance structure with representatives from both physician and hospital leadership teams. This includes a Massachusetts regional board and 11 local chapter boards covering the geography of the network.
Additional network benefits include:
SHCN offers physicians the opportunity to purchase Physician Professional Liability insurance coverage through Tailored Risk Assurance Company, Ltd. (TRACO). This medical malpractice benefit is comprehensive and features premiums below market prices, on average.
In order to be eligible for this coverage, physicians must have a primary affiliation membership with SHCN. In addition, any physician who practices more than 20 percent outside the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as defined by the number of patient service encounters is not eligible.
This insurance program offers primary professional liability coverage on a modified claim-made basis, meaning malpractice insurance coverage is provided for services rendered during the policy period. The cost of the extended claim reporting endorsement (often referred to as “tail”) is included in the premium paid each year the policy is in effect. Unfortunately, we do not offer coverage for obstetrics and gynecology.
Steward Health Care System partnered with Tufts Health Plan and Fallon Community Health Plan to create Steward Community Health Plans, which are community hospital network insurance products that dramatically reduce health insurance costs for individuals and small businesses. By providing the majority of care in physicians’ offices and community hospitals, Steward Community Health Plans can be priced up to 15 to 35 percent below current market rates while still providing members with a benefit option that is comparable to the design of other plans. These plans are available to our SHCN providers.
