The gynecologic cancer program at the Steward® Centers for Cancer Care provides expert, compassionate care for women with cancers of the reproductive system.
Michael A. Steller, MD, director of the Steward Division of Gynecologic Oncology and who has been recognized as a Top Doctor by Boston Magazine, oversees a multidisciplinary team of highly trained physicians, nurses and other specialists dedicated to diagnosing and treating women with gynecologic cancers.
Diagnosis and treatment for our patients typically take place in hospitals or clinics near patients’ homes. Complex surgery is performed at the Steward hospital in your community, where state-of-the-art surgical suites and intensive care units are available. Our gynecologic oncologists supervise chemotherapy and radiation in collaboration with a team of physicians and providers at our hospitals.
Advances in robotic assisted surgery have transformed gynecologic surgery oncology at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center. Expert surgeons use the minimally invasive da Vinci® Surgical System, which makes a few small abdominal incisions instead of the larger incisions typically required during these types of procedures. Also, robotics has transformed gynecologic oncology by facilitating extensive lymph node dissections with pinpoint accuracy and exacting control.
