Norwood Hospital Behavioral Health

Norwood Hospital’s behavioral health services program is dedicated to helping adults by providing a full range of inpatient treatment options. Our comprehensive services focus on treating the individual to help them restore balance and a sense of well-being in their lives.

The general hospital center setting also offers many other advantages toward a complete plan of care and makes it possible to address any medical problems that may accompany a patient’s mental health. Our behavioral health services include:

Inpatient Adult Behavioral Health Services

Norwood Hospital’s mission is to provide comfortable quality care to individuals in need of an inpatient psychiatric setting. Our focus of patient treatment is on diagnostic assessment, reduction of acute symptoms and development of an aftercare plan. The inpatient program is a secure 21-bed adult psychiatric unit and a 12-bed adult psychiatric unit for patients with less demanding physical needs.

Our program offers a structured environment with daily programming and a multidisciplinary team approach to care, which includes a psychiatrist, nurses, social workers, activity therapists, physical and occupational therapists, and mental health professionals. Consultations are available from neurologists, psychologists, addiction specialists, nutritionists and other health care professionals.

Inpatient Senior Behavioral Health Services

The geropsychiatric unit at Norwood Hospital is a secure 28-bed unit for patients 55 or older. Patients are cared for by staff that are experts in caring for patients with behavioral and cognitive impairments as well as existing medical conditions. Patients have the added benefit of readily available general medical resources nearby if needed.

Outpatient Behavioral Health Services

At Norwood Hospital, we offer electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), a well-established, safe and accepted medical procedure for the treatment of many types of mental and emotional conditions. Directed by chief of psychiatry Norman Tabroff, MD, ECT plays an active and important role in the clinical care of many patients.
